I. Policy Title: Tuition Approval

II. Who Does This Policy Affect:

All HFC faculty, staff, and students

III. Purpose

Henry Ford College (the College) Board of Trustees (the Board) holds the authority to and responsibility for establishing student tuition rates, in accordance with the Community College Act of 1966.

IV. Policy Statement

New tuition rates will go into effect for students enrolling in the Fall semester of each academic year. Tuition rates will adjust each year based on the prior year’s annual Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI), as published by the Bureau of Labor statistics. Tuition rates will be rounded up to the next half dollar and will not increase more than 5% or less than 2% regardless of the CPI rate.

The College will provide the Board with Notice of the applicable annual CPI rate on or about February 1st of each year. Along with that Notice, the Board will receive from the President, or designee, a report of the new tuition rates which reflect the CPI adjustment. If the Board does not take any action on the new tuition rates, effective in the Fall semester the new tuition rates will apply.

On an annual basis, the College will provide the Board with the tuition rates of community colleges with comparable student enrollments.

Any departure from this policy must be approved by the Board at the next public meeting after the Board receives the CPI-rate change and related documents.
The Board will review this policy every two (2) years to determine whether it should continue or be modified.
