I. Policy Title: Citizens’ Advisory Committees

III. Purpose

Henry Ford College (HFC) shall seek the knowledge and experience of distinguished members of our community to creatively collaborate with faculty and administration to maintain the College’s responsiveness to the needs of the region.

IV. Policy Statement

1. Establishment and Function

a. The Board of Trustees at its discretion, may establish citizens' advisory committees when there is a definite function to be performed.

i. All appointments of citizens to advisory committees shall be approved by the Board.
ii. All appointments of staff members to citizens' advisory committees shall be made by the President.
iii. Every effort shall be made to ensure that the makeup of an advisory committee is as truly representative of the community as possible.
iv. Board members may be ex officio members of an advisory committee.
v. The term of appointment for members of citizen/lay committees shall be designated at the time of appointment (normally, not to exceed two years).
vi. The Board shall have the sole power to dissolve any of its advisory committees and shall reserve the right to exercise this power at any time during the life of any committee.

2. Approval of Expenditures

a. Expenditure of College funds by an advisory committee shall be made only upon the prior approval of the President of the College.
b. Supplies, equipment, and personnel from within the College may be obtained through the appointed staff resource person.

3. Communication and Correspondence

a. Correspondence between the Board and its committees shall ordinarily be conducted by the President of the College.
b. The President shall transmit the contents of any communication from a committee to the Board.

4. Submission of Committee Reports

a. When a committee is ready to submit a report on its assigned topic, the President of the College shall arrange a meeting for the purpose of receiving the report.
