9000 Creating a Position

The Board of Trustees recognizes the need to establish positions which, when filled by competent, qualified support staff, will assist the College in achieving the educational goals set by the Board. In accordance with the Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 as amended, the College employs only U.S. Citizens and others lawfully authorized to work in the United States.

The President or designee shall verify all new employees' and substitutes' right to work in the United States according to the Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 as amended.

The Board reserves the right to:

  1. fix and prescribe the duties to be performed by all personnel;

  2. to create new positions;

  3. to specify the number of persons within each job category; and

  4. set the initial wage rate and number of hours and length of contract year for a new position when not covered by
    negotiated agreements.

In the exercise of its authority to create new positions, the Board shall give primary consideration to:

  1. the needs of students; and

  2. the operating needs of the College.

The Board may create a new position, increase the number of support staff in an existing position, or eliminate a position.

The Board delegates the right to fix and prescribe the duties of support staff to the President.
